Academy producers plan to bring together Stephenie Meyer and JK Rowling

In one of their moves to attract more viewers for the Academy Awards, producers Alan Shankman and Bill Mechanic were planning to bring together two of the world’s most popular authors: Harry Potter’s JK Rowling and Twilight’s Stephenie Meyer.

Their plan however didnt push through as Ms. Rowling declined due to conflict of schedules while Ms. Meyer as a Mormon, doesnt work on Sundays.

The pair even wanted ” Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling and “Twilight” scribe Stephenie Meyer to present the adapted screenplay category, but Rowling was unavailable because of scheduling conflicts and Meyer, who is a Mormon, does not work on Sundays.

Introducing Twilight: The Graphic Novel

Last year, we posted news that Twilight will be republished as a graphic novel. The art will be done by Young Kim and will be published by Yen Press.

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly posted the first exclusive look of the manga including the front cover.

Yen Press will release the Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Vol.1 on March 16, with a first printing of 350,000 copies. Author Stephenie Meyer was heavily involved in the project. In a sneak peak of her interview with Entertainment Weekly, the reclusive author talked about getting involved with the manga adaptation as well as writing more Twilight novels.

The text of your original novel is boiled down so carefully that it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. Were you the one who did that?

I was definitely involved.  I didn’t do the original “script” for the book, so to speak.  But when I got the dialogue with the images, I did a lot of tinkering. In a couple of places, I asked for missing scenes to be inserted.  For example, the conversation in the car that Bella and Edward have after she faints in Biology.

How does the feeling of reading the graphic novel compare to that of reading the original? Does it bring something new to the experience for you?

For me, it takes me back to the days when I was writing Twilight.  It’s been a while since I was really able to read Twilight; there is so much baggage attached to that book for me now.  It seems like all I can see are the mistakes in the writing.  Reading Young’s version brought me back to the feeling I had when I was writing and it was just me and the characters again.  I love that.  I thank her for it.

When this project is done, are you done with Twilight?

I can’t say that I am done with Twilight forever.  I’m not working on anything new Twilight-related now, and probably not for a while.  But there’s still a possibility that I’ll go back and close some of the open doors.

Stephenie Meyer dominates USA Today’s Best-Selling Book List of 2009

Stephenie Meyer helped make 2009 the year of the vampires as vampire-related novels dominated the books charts last year. According to USA TODAY, the Twilight Saga are the Best-Selling Books of 2009, ending the year by occupying the top four spots in their list.
No author has done this before – not even Potter author JK Rowling. Stephenie’s success has pulled in 16 other vampire titles onto the list, making them part of the year’s 100 most popular books.

“Meyer had an unbelievable impact,” says Michael Norris, books analyst for Simba Information, a market-research firm. He wonders what publishers will do when what he calls ” ‘the vampire industrial average’ falls. Every cycle has an end.”

But for now, Meyer — who has also benefited from Twilight movie adaptations, with more to come — has turned “the YA (young adult) category into the PG-13 of books,” he says. “She’s not just read by tweens and teens, but by a lot of 30-year-old women.”

Also, Total Film released their list of 100 Most Influential People in the Movies List. Among those included are Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and actor Robert Pattinson.

Stephenie Meyer

The vampire queen, post-Anne Rice. Connecticut’s superstar scribe of emo-bloodsucker splash Twilight consolidated her standing with the record-busting success of movie sequel New Moon, tearing into franchise terrain soon to be vacated by Harry Potter. Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of her sci-fi novel The Host should spread her web further.

Robert Pattinson

Stephenie Meyer vindicated in lawsuit filed against her

A few months ago, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer was sued for plagiarism by Jordan Scott, who claimed that Stephenie used some plotline in her book for Breaking Dawn.

Yesterday, the Honorable Otis D. Wright II of the US District Court dismissed the claim and ruled in favor of Stephenie Meyer. According to the judge, both books (The Nocturne and Breaking Dawn) have little in common and that the “characters in the two works are vastly different”. The decision scolded Scott for “the deceptive presentation of the alleged similarities” and noted that she ” has twice manipulated aspects of the subject works in order to create the appearance of similarity”.

The judge also confirms that Breaking Dawn is wholly an original work by Stephenie Meyer and this was a frivolous lawsuit brought for the purpose of publicizing the plaintiff’s personal publishing aspirations.

Following Wright’s ruling, a Hachette spokesperson said today, “While an attempt to ride on someone else’s success may not be surprising, it is encouraging that the courts and the public are not so easily misled.”
