Robert, Stephenie & Kristen:Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Celebrities List

Yesterday, Forbes has released their annual rankings of the World’s Most Powerful Celebrity List. This annual compilation of the 100 most influential celebrities ranks them according their monetary earnings, press coverages, social hits and web researches which makes them a powerful force/influence in today’s celebrity world.

Included in the list are Robert Pattinson, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer and Kristen Stewart. Rob is ranked the highest among the three, at #50, followed by Stephenie Meyer at #59 and Kristen Stewart at #66. Here is what they have to say about each of them:

Power Rank 50
Pay $17.0 mil
Category Actors
Pay Rank 86
Web Rank 7
Press Rank 37
TV/Radio Rank 53
Social Rank 68

Everyone’s favorite vampire may be on the verge of becoming a true movie star. Pattinson earns most of his money from the Twilight films where he stars as Edward Cullen. But he’ll break out of the Twilight rut with next year’s Like Water for Elephants, based on the popular novel and costarring Reese Witherspoon.

Power Rank 59
Pay $40.0 mil
Category Authors
Pay Rank 48
Web Rank 32
Press Rank 59
TV/Radio Rank 85
Social Rank 87

Meyer didn’t release a new book in 2009 but she still lands on our list thanks to the almost rabid fans who devour everything to do with her successful Twilight series. She has reportedly sold over 100 million copies of her vampire novels and the film versions have so far earned $1 billion at the box office.

Power Rank 66
Pay $12.0 mil
Category Teen stars
Pay Rank 92
Web Rank 9
Press Rank 53
TV/Radio Rank 62
Social Rank 69

The 20-year-old Stewart is now recognizable to teens around the world as Bella, the human caught between a vampire and a werewolf in the Twilight series. The movies have so far earned $1 billion at the box office and made Stewart a star. She stretched her wings this year with the indie film The Runaways where she played Joan Jett.

Forbes also posted a feature story on the power of the Twilight Saga. According to them, this newcomers to the list have been catapulted into fame and mainstream media, thanks in large to the success of the books and movies.

Here is an excerpt of their article:

That success helped Meyer earn $40 million this year, ranking her 59th on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list. Last year, thanks in part to her non-Twilight book The Host, Meyer ranked 16th with $50 million. Her newest book, a spinoff of the Twilight series titled The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, should bump her up the list again next year, especially since the story’s released is timed to coincide with the third Twilight film, Eclipse, which hits theaters June 30.

And Eclipse should be a blockbuster; it’s expected to make $75 million during its opening weekend alone, according to Exhibitor Relations. The series is already one of the most profitable in recent movie history. The first two Twilight films cost a reported cumulative $90 million to produce and have earned $1.1 billion at the box office. That’s helped turn tiny Summit Entertainment into a growing film studio. Summit is also behind films like Oscar-winner The Hurt Locker, Knowing and Furry Vengeance.

In other news, Taylor Lautner may not have made it into the list but he was included in Forbes’ 17  Stars To Watch List. This list looks at the 17 celebrities who may be included in the Most Powerful List next year.

Lautner actually managed to make millions of Twilight fans forget about Robert Pattinson as they swooned on Team Jacob. Now Lautner is the go-to man for upcoming action franchises like Stretch Armstrong, for which he’ll receive a reported $7.5 million. With the final installment of the Twilight series being broken into two movies, Lautner has a chance to earn big next year.

British rockers Muse was also included in the list.

Already a hit in their home country, English rock band Muse is finally breaking through to the American mainstream. Their tour in support of their record The Resistance will continue through the end of 2010, and the band’s song Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) was the first single released from the soundtrack to Eclipse, the next installment of the juggernaut Twilight saga.

Stephenie Meyer addresses Midnight Sun concersns

In an interview with several Twilight websites, Stephenie Meyer addresses  the speculations about Midnight Sun.

I know that’s what everyone cares about.  I also know that the right answer would be for me to say “Oh yah, it’s done! And it’ll be out next month!”  But that’s not true.  It’s also not true that I’ve got a ton of work done on it, and that’s what I’m working on.  What’s true is that I’m really burned out on vampires.  And, I don’t want to write it badly.  So I want to wait until I’m excited about the material again, and I’m excited about Edward, and that it’s something that’s motivating.  You know, when a story is keeping me up at night, and I’m waking up at 4 am in the morning and thinking ‘Yes! That is what is what should happen in this moment!’  Then that is when I can write with happiness! So, right now it feels like homework… it really does.  And when things feel like homework they go very, very slowly for me.  So it’s still not a “It’s not gonna happen!” I want to do it when I can do it right.  You know, I have my share of human stubbornness, and I have to tell you, it’s a little bit hard when people are like “This is the only thing you can do, and it’s the only thing we care about!”  And, you’re kind of like a three year old, you want to be like “I’m gonna do what I wanna do!” Yah.  “You’re not the boss of me!”  So my mom has backed off a little bit.  Actually, I was at The Fray concert, and I was hanging out with the guys backstage.  They’re really cool, and I was talking to Isaac about it.  He was like, “I really want you to do that!”  And I was like “Oh my gosh!  Come on!”  You know I can’t get away from it anywhere.  And, we talked about stubbornness and reverse psychology.  I have this great thing he signed for me, it says “To Stephenie, Don’t work on that stupid book! Nobody wants it anyway!”  I have it by my computer.  That really is the right direction to go with me, because I’m like “Huh!  Maybe I should do it!  I’ll show you!”   Psychology!  Anyway, that’s Midnight Sun!  so, that should disappoint everyone!

Stephenie Meyer to conduct exclusive sit-down interview with four Us Twilight fan sites

Stephenie Meyer has updated her website with news that she is going to do an exclusive sit-down interview with four Twilight sites.

Hey guys,

I want to do something different with publicity for this movie release. For Twilight, I did the normal press junket, for New Moon I got to go on Oprah. Both of these were fun, exciting experiences. However, they both had the same drawback—the interviews were designed for a very broad audience, and because of that, most of the questions were about things you guys have known the answers to for years. I feel like all of the basic questions have been answered, and for Eclipse I want to focus on the more specific questions of the readers. To accomplish that, I’m hosting my own mini-junket with a few fansites. It will be held on Friday, June 18th, the week before the L.A. premiere.

Unfortunately, I can’t talk to every single site, and I want to keep this as low key and enjoyable as possible. So I put all the U.S. fansites in a hat (for logistical reasons, we had to keep this in the country) and drew out four names.

The names I drew were:

Each of these sites is invited to send two members of their staff (or one member and a guest) to our fan-centric mini-junket. You will be contacted shortly by my assistant, who will give you all the specific information. In the event that any of the sites is unable to send representatives, I’ve already drawn four back up sites, which I will post if it becomes necessary.

I’ll answer all of your questions (and your readers questions, if you want to poll them) about the Eclipse Movie, and the Bree story, as well, which will have been out for a few weeks by then. We’ll have lunch, hang out, and hopefully have a fantastic time. I hope you all can make it!

-Steph

New Book from Stephenie: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

Rejoice Twilighters!

Stephenie Meyer is going to release a new book entitled “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner:An Eclipse Novella“. This is a novella taken out from the Twilight Saga featuring one of the characters introduced in Eclipse, Bree Tanner.

As you may all know, Bree was one of the newborn vampires created by Riley and Victoria, and was one of those who attacked Forks before being killed by the Volturi. The book will be released on June 5, Saturday and will go on sale at 12:01 a.m, with 1.5 million first printing. One dollar of each book sold from the first printing will also be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund.

“I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella,” said Meyer in a statement. “When I began working on it in 2005, it was simply an exercise to help me examine the other side of Eclipse, which I was editing at the time. I thought it might end up as a short story that I could include on my website. Then, when work started on The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, I thought the Guide would be a good fit for my Bree story. However, the story grew longer than I anticipated, until it was too long to fit into the Guide.”

The novella will also be available online for free from June 7 to July 5, 2010. Just head over to http://www.breetanner.com. Stephenie is also asking fans who will read and purchase the book for free to also donate so as to help the American Red Cross in their relief efforts around the world.
