He was a virtual unknown in the US until he was cast in the third Twilight film, Eclipse. When he won the role of Riley, you could say Australian actor Xavier Samuel was thrown off into the radar – the Twilight radar that is. Now Xavier cant get enough of the Twilight questions.
While doing promotion for his new movie, The Loved Ones, Xavier was asked about how being part of the Twilight Saga has changed his life.
“Has being cast in the next ‘Twilight’ film (‘Eclipse’) changed your life?” the interviewer asks.
“It’s kind of strange to me really because I haven’t seen it. It’s kind of like, it seems a bit bizarre that they’re taking my photos. The film hasn’t even come out yet. It’s funny because on the way up here, there was like a crowd of people outside, and I hear this ‘Who are you?’ ‘ Are you famous?’ You know, they’re just like, I think the celebrity thing is such a bizarre phenomenon, you know, that it’s kind of like, you know, it’s intoxicating or something, people just want to be around to see for the sake of it. But you know that kind of attention, while I haven’t kind of been under the microscope the same way that a lot of the other cast have, I think it’s still possible to lead a reasonably normal life. I kind of feel like sunglasses are a little bit of a security blanket for me, I feel a bit naked if I step out without them,” Samuel reveals.

In an interview with AdelaideNow, Xavier Samuel has handled the Hollywood fame quite pretty well. The Aussie Actor will hit the Hollywood big screen next year as the newborn vampire Riley in the third installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse.
“It’s a bizarre thing, the whole celebrity phenomenon,” Samuel told the Sunday Mail.
“But to see it in action is another thing. It’s a little strange having someone follow you to get a coffee.
“I wasn’t used to that sort of attention, so I just took it in my stride, I guess.
“I think Robert and Kristen do a really good job in dealing with fans.
“They seem to handle it really well, so if I can take a leaf out of their book I should be OK.”

Xavier Samuel stopped by the office of Teen Vogue in New York recently where he gave a short interview and was seen reading the Teen Vogue cover of Dakota Fanning.
How was filming Eclipse?
Playing Riley was cool–I get to boss around a bunch of newborn vampires. I had a really good time hanging out with everyone in Vancouver. I play the guitar, so Jackson [Rathbone] and I had a few jams together–Rob plays as well, he’s really good. It’s kind of awesome when you go to the other side of the world and find a bunch of people who are all into music and like the same bands as you.
What kind of stuff have you been listening to lately?
I’m really into this new African band called The Very Best. There’s this amazing track on their album, The Warm Heart of Africa, called “Chikondi.” It’s got that kind of magnetic feel to it–like Sun Kil Moon or Bon Iver. Are you hooked on any TV shows these days?
Bryce [Dallas Howard] actually got me a DVD set of Lost which I really want to get into. I don’t really watch that much these days, but I’ll admit I used to watch Dawson’s Creek and The O.C. growing up in Australia. Yes, we do get American TV there–though people think Australians have like one public phone and all ride kangaroos to work.

He is one of the new kids on the Eclipse set but Xavier Samuel has shown that he can held on his own. The young Australian actor already has a strong following of Twilight fans and is fast becoming a favorite. Xavier took some time to talk to Moviehole, where he talked about his role, being part of the Twilight Saga and filming his scenes. Here is an excerpt:
Question: Did you know anything about that particular franchise?
Samuel: To be honest, not really. Like, I watched the film on the plane. And at that stage, I hadn’t read the books, but I have now. I knew very little about it. I knew that it was extremely popular, and people kind of go crazy for it.
Question: Crazy is an understatement.
Samuel: Yeah. Like, you know, this notion of eternal love, and danger, and – you know, the thing that you love could kill you – that sort of stuff is, like – I guess it’s intoxicating for a lot of people.
Question: And you play a vampire in Eclipse?
Samuel: Newborn vampire.
Question: A newborn vampire. Do you do any research on something like this?
Samuel: Sleep in coffins at night, and stuff like that?
Question: Or look at classic horror films that explored vampire culture.
Samuel: I think that I’ve resisted that temptation, because the vampires, in Twilight, are very different. I think there’s a crucial element to portraying something like that is retaining some sort of humanity, and if you can do that, then hopefully it can work, in less of a stereotypical, clichéd kind of way.
Question: Do you have any kind of relationship with Kristen’s Bella? I mean, is there a bond of some kind that exists?
Samuel: That’s a tricky question to answer, without giving away the plot.
Question: There might be, or there might not be?
Samuel: That’s a valid statement. How am I doing evading it?
Question: You’re doing very well. David Slade is the third director associated with the franchise.
Samuel: Yeah, David’s astonishing.
Question: Now I was wondering whether or not he brings that kind of raw sensibility to this particular interpretation of Twilight.
Samuel: Well, he’s such an intelligent, very down-to-earth director. And from what I can gather, the way that he’s approaching shooting the film is quite different to the previous two.
Question: Now, is your character in any other books?
Samuel: In Eclipse. Yeah.
