Peter Facinelli: career moves, Twilight and Breaking Dawn

IESB talked to Twilight actor Peter Facinelli regarding about his career, being part of Twilight, his future career plans and Breaking Dawn. Here is an excerpt:

IESB: This Twilight stuff, is really a phenomenon, who would’ve known it was going to be this big. When you signed up for the first one, did you just think it was going to be a small little vampire movie?

Peter Facinelli: I knew there was a fanbase of the books, but, somewhere along the line of finishing the movie and it coming out, that fanbase grew exponentially. But we were just trying to make a good movie for the fans of the books, we had no idea that it would turn into this, but, I am always very grateful for the fan support and love that interaction with them because their energy feeds me.

IESB: David Slade, how was he on set? Every director seems to bring something a little different to the franchise, how different was Slade, considering he knows the vampire genre.

PF: I thought he was a great fit for what they were going for. Every movie has had a little bit of different energy, I think the director sets the tone and David brought a great quality to it, it has a lot more action and I think he understands the action elements to it as well as the love story. There is a lot going on in that book and I was glad he was at the helm.

IESB: Do these events ever get tiring, I don’t mean in a bad way but Comic-con and different events all over the world, does it get a little like, “Wow, there is too much for me to do!”

PF: No, I mean it would be a lot more work this morning if nobody showed up (laughing), so the fact that people are interested and people are willing to take the time to come out to come out and support something that I think is important and also to come out and meet me, I’m always grateful for.

IESB: I know Kristen Stewart is saying she is excited to see it broken up into a two-parter, would you like to see it that way?

PF: I would. I think it’s a very big book, makes a great doorstop (laughing). It’s a very thick book and has a lot of stuff going on so to try to squeeze that into two hours would be difficult so I think making it into two makes the most sense. I don’t even know if they’ve made a decision on that yet, I heard that’s what they were steering towards. But, I let them do their thing, when they call me to show up on set, that’s where I’ll be, I let them do the business stuff and I’m supportive of their decisions. Summit has done a good job with the books so far with picking the directors and putting the movies out there so I defer to them on those decisions and I’m just excited to bring Carlisle to life.

IESB: Any chance any of the previous three directors will return for Breaking Dawn or do you think they will go with one or two different directors?

PF: I think they would probably go with one because I think we would shoot it all as one and then it would be, in the editing room, split into two. I have no idea who they are looking at for directors, I’m out of that loop, but I am sure they will pick someone great. Maybe all three will come back to shoot it (laughing).

IESB: Are you looking to write, direct or produce in the future?

PF: I have written and that’s where I am gearing towards now. I would like to do projects I am passionate about instead of waiting to read things and like or dislike, so there are a couple scripts that I’ve written that in development right now and I am trying to get off the ground. So that will be the next phase of my career, hopefully, is getting material out that I like, producing that material, star in the material, getting stories out there.

Peter Facinelli shares his thoughts on Breaking Dawn

Peter Facinelli shared his thoughts on the adaptation of the fourth Twilight book, Breaking Dawn. Peter is tight lipped on whether the film will be divided into two movies but he is sure excited to go back film the last book.

“It’s a very thick book. I think that two movies would be a good thing for the franchise. I support it, but ultimately it’s up to what Summit decides,” Peter chatted, though he seemed to pick his words very carefully.

“I’m having a great time with the franchise, so if we get to do two more that would be fun.”

He is also excited to see the fighting scenes in Eclipse.

“The battle in Eclipse was superfun. We got to do a lot of fight training and choreography, and I’m looking forward to the fans seeing that. They get to see the Cullens in a way they’ve never seen them before,” the star mysterious teased.

Peter was proud to boast of his stunt work too, claiming, “I tried to do as much as I could, or as much as they allowed me to do. If I didn’t go home with a bruise, I didn’t feel like I put in a good day’s work.”

“I’m really excited about Eclipse — we did a lot of training for that movie, like six weeks of fight training,” he told us. “It was funny because it became almost like an in-house competition and everyone was always in the gym or working out. Sometimes we’d work out like three times a day. One time, I was in my apartment and I was going down to do my workout, and the elevator doors opened and Kellan Lutz was [in there] doing push-ups. I was like, ‘Okay, Kellan, you win! You win the competition!’”

Peter Facinelli: Paging Dr. Cullen and Dr. Cooper

Peter Facinelli seems to be “on-call” these days as two of his regular roles involves him being called as doctor. Peter is known as Dr. Carlisle Cullen to Twilight fans and Dr. Fitch Cooper to fans of “Nurse Jackie”. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Peter talks about being a “doctor”, having a huge following in Twitter and many more. Here is an excerpt;

ET: You have a huge following on Twitter. What made you start?

Peter Facinelli: I just enjoy what Twitter is because I can really connect with the fans. It is a great way to share information with them and it is a good way to entertain. I like being able to put a smile on people’s faces and mix that up with sharing information with them. That’s important. Also, letting them know what I am doing. I have had people come to me and say, “Will you tweet this out?” There is like paid advertisement stuff. I am not into that. I want to keep my Twitter pure. I don’t want to sell my followers anything, I want to be able to have that base, so I can tell them what I am doing and entertain them.

ET: Did you ever think that ‘Twilight’ was going to do so much for your career?

Peter Facinelli: The fan base has been so phenomenal. When you go to an event, people have flown in from other countries just to take a picture with you. That is a loyal fan base that you can’t even imagine having. I am thankful for all of them. That is why I try to give back in connecting with them [on Twitter].

ET: You were filming both projects at the same time. How did you juggle?

Peter Facinelli: I have had a very crazy schedule. There was a whole month where I was shooting ‘Eclipse’ and “Nurse Jackie” at the same time. And I actually enjoyed it because I enjoy what I do, so when I show up for work, it’s very invigorating, and I get energized by it. So there were times where I’d get off an airplane from a red-eye and have, like, three hours sleep and then go straight to work.

ET: Dr. Fitch Cooper is a different type of doctor than Carlisle. Was that part of the attraction of the role?

Peter Facinelli: It was actually really fun for me to do such contrasting roles because Carlisle is such a calming force; he’s a rock, and he’s a foundation of this family. And Coop is none of that. He runs around like he’s had four cans of Red Bull. So to be able to do those two contrasting roles where, in one character, I’m very still and the other one, he’s very energized, was a lot of fun for me.

“It’s something that I’ve been actively going after because I’d die to put the weight back on,” he told us at last night’s Division-E party at Lisa Kline in L.A. “I’m tired of playing young; I want to be the big guy that I was.”

“I’ve been auditioning,” Kellan, 24, said. “They’re finalizing so they’re trying to figure out what happens next. I’ve been waiting for a while, doing screen tests. There are just so many cooks in the kitchen. If it happens, it happens…Regardless, it’s not gonna be the new Arnold Schwarzenegger type of movie, no one’s going to try and play that role. I think they’re going younger, a different type of story. I’m just excited, because the script is great.”

Peter Facinelli heads home for the holidays

iVillage was able to interview Peter Facinelli where he talked about his family, relationships and Twilight. Here is an excerpt:

The Twilight Saga has such a huge fan base. Has the experience been crazy so far?
I’m a fan of the books, too, so I understand their passion for the project and the movies. And I’m excited to be a part of the franchise and be able to have a say in how it’s made.

Are you constantly getting stopped on the street?
It’s helpful that in the movie I have blond hair and in real life I don’t. I’m able to get around a little easier than some of the others. That said, the fans know me by now and what I do look like, so I do get approached quite often.

Have you had any crazy fan requests?
Yeah, you get the, “Can you bite me?” a lot. Once in awhile I’ll bite them on the wrist for a picture. It’s fun, you know. The whole series is fun to be a part of. It’s great that they’re so excited about these movies. It would be worse if they were throwing tomatoes at us, you know what I mean?

Did you draw on your own fatherhood experience for your role as Carlisle Cullen?
Whenever you take on a role there are things you connect with and things you have to research, and for me, being a patriarch of a family came naturally. I have a family of my own and so I understood what it was like. So it was more about working on who Carlisle was as a person and where his travels have taken him and how to get 350 years onto the screen.

Did you take on a father-figure role with your younger castmates?
I think in the first movie I was more fatherly towards them, because when you meet up with the other actors you kind of see them as their characters and they take on traits of their characters. So everyone kind of fell into who they are in the family, and my role was the patriarch. But as they got to know me more, I became more like the older brother kind of figure.

Do you all really get along?
We’re pretty much a family on and off set. After work we enjoy each other’s company. We go out to dinners. We had this experience together. There were no egos involved when we started
Twilight, and there are still no egos involved, and that’s kind of nice to see that people’s heads haven’t grown. They’re still the same people we started the journey with.

Peter Facinelli gives back to his Alma Mater

Ever the proud New Yorker, Peter Facinelli gives back to his alma mater, St. Francis Preparatory School as he visited the school to inspire its students. He addressed two student assemblies – one, composed of senior students while another was full of performing arts students.

“He came to us a professional and not as a celebrity,” said St. Francis Prep sophomore Nora Martini, who is a performing arts student at the school. “He talked to us about the business and how this was his dream to become an actor.”

“It’s wild, but I know that St. Francis Prep offers you so much to do, and I knew there were a lot of successful people who have graduated and will graduate from here,” Martini said.

Peter is proud to have come back to his school and be an inspiration.

“It’s a school that has planted the seeds of who I am today, and I was grateful to be able to give back in some small way. Wherever I go, I will never forget where I came from, and even though I left Prep many years ago, the values that I acquired there have never left me.”
