Robert Pattinson & Michael Sheen:100 British Celebrities who Matters by Piers Morgan

Former tabloid editor and reality TV judge Piers Morgan has released his list of 100 British Celebrities That Really Matter. This list is compost of actors, actresses, authors, TV personalities and sport athletes. Included in the list are two Twilight actors: Robert Pattinson and Michael Sheen.

79. MICHAEL SHEEN

He should be a lot higher on this list, frankly, because Sheen is probably our most successfully versatile thespian at the moment. But he’s not that ’sexy’, so he doesn’t command the kind of tabloid attention that propels actors from stars to superstars – something that I suspect he’s quite happy about. He’s got one of those Rory Bremner-like faces that can adapt to almost any character, from Tony Blair to David Frost. And he’s a fine, fine actor. So he matters, but not nearly as much as he would if he got caught on a sex tape with Paris Hilton. A tragic, but accurate, state of affairs.

6. ROBERT PATTINSON

This is quite a simple one. Pattinson’s the handsome young star of the Twilight films, beloved of teenage girls and other moody types. That fact makes him a nailed-down cert to be the most sought-after British movie star of 2010.

And that, in turn, makes him ‘matter’. The only problem for Pattinson is that, as my grandmother always likes to say, ‘One day you’re the cock of the walk, the next you’re a feather duster.’ And nowhere is that more true than in good old Tinseltown. So I wish him well, but urge him to watch his back.

And not just because of the millions of girls all over the world who’d like to attach themselves to his shapely shoulders as a matter of urgency.

The Daily Mail has also posted a feature article on Rob, where they chronicle the mass hysteria that the young actor brings with him. They also talked to Rob about his rocketing fame, his career choices, his fears and many more. Here is an excerpt of the article.

The noise is deafening; a mounting, high-pitched wall of sound that resonates like a fire alarm. Hundreds of teenage girls are packed outside Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House for the Baftas, voicing their appreciation for the star of the Twilight films, and it sounds like Beatlemania, Nineties-era Girl Power and the X Factor crowd combined.

Screaming fans are commonplace here on the red carpet, but this crowd has a more deranged, more despairing edge to it.

The man at the centre of the maelstrom is Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen, the Byronesque, deathly-cool vampire hero of the gigantically successful franchise based on the best-selling novels by Stephenie Meyer. When I meet him later, he says he was overwhelmed by the swell of adulation.

‘I really didn’t know anything about all this Twilight madness, even when I was shooting the original movie,’ says the 23-year-old.

‘But when we came back to LA to do reshoots there were 500 fans at the set, with girls screaming and people asking for my autograph. I get a lot of crying from teenage girls, but lately a lot of them actually want me to bite them, which is a bit worrying.

‘Another girl started undressing in front of me in the street. To get my attention she’d asked me what she could do, so as a joke I said, “Take all your clothes off.” But then she actually started taking her clothes off right there! Some people are really desperate.’

It sounds as worrying, I suggest, as when two participants at a charity auction in Cannes last year bid nearly £40,000 between them to buy their two daughters a single kiss each on the cheek from Pattinson.

‘One day I was a normal bloke and then the next I wasn’t,’ he mutters, shuffling uncomfortably in his seat. ‘The day before the Harry Potter London premiere I was just sitting in Leicester Square, happily being ignored by everyone. Then suddenly strangers are screaming my name. It’s just madness now. Pure bloody madness.’

Michael Sheen gets to relax for Eclipse

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Welsh actor Michael Sheen is glad that her daughter can now appreciate the movies he is in.

“Having spent years and years doing films in which she had no interest in whatsoever, either because she couldn’t watch them because they’re too scary, or she didn’t want to watch them because they’re too boring,” Sheen says, “now to be able to do films that are slam-bang in the middle of what she’s interested in, it’s fantastic for me as a dad.”

He also said that he will most likely be back for Breaking Dawn. But is content for the meanwhile to see others go through with the Twilight experience again.

“I can sit back and watch all the others have to go through that again,” he says, smiling — he will likely return in the fourth, Breaking Dawn.

Are you excited to return to planet Twilight for Breaking Dawn?

I am! The whole Twilight juggernaut has been focusing on Eclipse for awhile, which I’m not in. They haven’t turned their attention to Breaking Dawn yet. But I’m looking forward to donning the red contacts again.

Michael Sheen wants to be bothered

In an interview with OK UK, Welsh actor Michael Sheen says the he is grateful that he is not bothered by the Twilight fans – although he wants to.

“No one recognises me. It’s great – I get to be part of the whole [Twilight] phenomenon and yet I don’t get bothered – although I would like to be bothered!

“I quite like it when someone points out to somebody else that I’m in Twilight – like if there’s a 12-year-old girl and her mum says ‘You know who this is don’t you – it’s Aro from Twilight’ and seeing them go wide-eyed and crazy.”

Michael can next be seen as White Rabbit McTwisp in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

Michael Sheen: On being Aro and getting down with the kids

British Actor Michael Sheen was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly where he talked about taking the part of Aro and trying to be down with the kids. Here is an excerpt of his interview:

What made you want to sign on to this project?
I knew about the whole
Twilight thing, primarily through my daughter, who’s 11 and is a big fan of the books. She’s read the books many, many times. And I knew how much people got into them. These weren’t just books you read. She was really into it. That was my introduction to it. I read the scripts and the book myself and saw the first film. And I thought it was a wonderful story and a great character. And then [director] Chris Weitz sent me a really lovely letter. It was a terrific thing to get involved with.

What was your daughter’s reaction to your playing Aro?
It was a whole mixture of things. She was very excited to think I was going to be a part of this, but she also thought her father was taking over something that was hers. But she got over that pretty quickly and was in the end just excited about going to the premiere really.

That’s what it all boiled down to, her chance to meet Robert Pattinson?
Yes, but actually her favorite is Ashley Greene.

Ashley spoke very highly of her time working with you.
She’s lovely. They all were very nice but they kind of treated me like an elderly uncle. They were all on their best behavior when they are around me. I just want to be down with the kids but that doesn’t really work out to well.
