Life Magazine takes a closer look at the new Victoria, Bryce Dallas- Howard.In this interview, Bryce talks about getting into her character, accepting the role, being the new vampire in town and many more.

Don’t let her serene energy and stunning looks fool you — Bryce Dallas Howard knows how to go for the jugular. “I had to get in touch with my animal instincts,” says the 29-year-old actress about taking over the pivotal role of Victoria, the villainous vampire out for heroine Bella’s blood in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. “At one point, I was actually working out in my head, ‘How would you physically suck blood from someone’s neck? Would you take a breath first? Would you open up your throat to drink?’”

Replacing actress Rachelle Lefevre, who had portrayed Victoria in the first movie and in its 2009 sequel, New Moon, but was let go over scheduling conflicts, Howard had just one week to prepare before filming on Eclipse began. So it’s a good thing she was already quite familiar with the Stephenie Meyer novels that sparked the phenomenon. Reading the Twilight books before the first film, Howard tells LIFE, “I felt as if I had discovered an incredible world of characters that felt so personal and so real to me…. But I have to say, the experience of going from being a true fan of a series and reading all the books to actually getting to be a part of it has been pretty wild.” And how have the notoriously passionate Twilight devotees — so ardent they call themselves “Twihards” — adjusted to the casting switch? “The fans that I have met have all been lovely, welcoming, and supportive. They have held the same passion for this series as I do,” says Howard, who recently encountered a screaming mass of them at Eclipse‘s Los Angeles premiere.

Twilight fans are passionate about the franchise

In a snippet of her interview with MTV, Bryce Dallas – Howard has revealed that Twilight fans are more passionate than the Spiderman fans. Bryce has appeared in the webslinger’s third outing where she played a rival to the hero’s affections. But Bryce is quick to clear that while Twilight fans are more passionate, the Spiderman fans are more sentimental about their franchise.

“I feel, honestly, pressure being part of it because you don’t want to let anyone down,” Howard told MTV News recently. “People, myself included, have stayed up at night reading the books over and over and over again, and watching the films over and over and over again, and really loving it so, so intensely. Whereas ‘Spider-Man,’ people are sentimental about it, they love it and are into it and that kind of stuff. Whereas this is passionate.”

“[T]he role and the character have been established. It’s so important to honor that in terms of the storytelling,” she said. “When I do a film, I always have all these questions that I’m asking myself, and [for Victoria] someone has mastered that and answered all those questions. Why reinvent the wheel? She created an incredible character.”

Bryce Dallas – Howard: Eclipse, Hollywood and Rob

In an interview with UK’s The Telegraph, Eclipse villain Bryce Dallas – Howard talked about her Hollywood upbringing, her crush on Robert Pattinson and taking over the role of Victoria.

Jumping on to the Twilight juggernaut – which has so far grossed over a billion dollars at the global box office – must have been thrilling.

‘I was really intimidated when we first started filming. I didn’t want to mess it up,’ she says. ‘But it was a fantastic experience. I am technically what could be considered a “Twi-hard”. I love the books.’

Without spoiling the plot (for those who haven’t read the books), Howard’s bitter and twisted vampire has a lot to contend with in this film, including heavy-duty fights with the conflicted, heroic Edward.

‘There’s a massive battle at the end where Edward and Victoria really face off, and obviously that becomes a huge spectacle with two vampires fighting one another. There’s a lot of swiping, grabbing, throwing, tackling. It’s totally a brawl. Everybody had bruising, but I dislocated my wrist.

The most scary thing was definitely fighting Robert. God forbid I hit his face – teenage girls would never forgive me!’

Rob is totally dreamy,’ she gushes. ‘But he’s so embarrassed about the attention. There were a lot of paparazzi and fans who had come from all over the country to see him filming. And he’s just like, “I don’t understand. There’s nothing special about me,” which there is, of course.’

She and co-stars Dakota Fanning and Xavier Samuel were also interviewed by The Scorecard Review.

Bayer: Xavier, I love when anyone slowly walks out of water, what goes in to filming that scene?

Xavier: We just really looked closely at Wild Things, Denise Richards [laughter]. Really strong source of inspiration. It took weeks to shoot.

Bayer: I guess I was sent to the “bad” vampires room. Dakota, I think you’re just misunderstood. Am I correct?
Dakota: Yeah. Totally. That’s it.

Bayer: Bryce, your character seems to be a pro manipulating men, in this movie. Is it really that easy?

Bryce: Well, the character Victoria, her primary objective is to destroy Bella out of vengeance because her mate, James, was killed in Twilight by the Cullens. So she’ll do anything, she’s brought almost to madness with her need to ayenge his death.

Bayer: So you’re saying Riley is just a tool?
[Laughter]

Bryce: Well, it’s what Victoria does.
