New Moon breaks records at MovieTicket.com; may do Iron Man numbers over the weekend

Deadline Hollywood Daily reports the New Moon has also broken Movie Tickets record for theTop 10 Advance Ticket Sellers of All Time. It has unseated Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

This is not surprising though according to Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general of MovieTickets.com, as there is growing number of purchasing advance tickets on-line.

“New Moon has broken a record that has stood unchallenged for almost five years,” Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager, MovieTickets.com, said in a statement. “While this achievement is significant, it comes as little surprise considering the film’s dedicated fan base and the growing trend of purchasing advance tickets online for highly anticipated films such as the Twilight series.”

As of 1:30 p.m. ET, New Moon accounts for 94% of all ticket sales at MovieTickets.com.

Also, Hollywood insiders are predicting for New Moon to produce an “Iron-Man” numbers this weekend. Iron Man amassed $98.6 million from 4,154 runs. New Moon is set to open in 4,024 show with 3,500 midnight shows. Summit is keeping their predictions low however with around $85 million over the weekend.
